Alissa jumping in excitement in front of the Wildflowers & Co. shop
We're excited to share that we've added a new stockist in Campbell River, a big welcome to Wildflowers & Co. Read on to learn more about this business in our interview with its creator and owner Alissa Assu.
Can you tell us more about Wildflowers & Co. and what you offer?
Wildflowers & Co. is an Indigenous woman owned and operated small shop. Our shop is located in the heart of downtown Campbell River. Our mission is to support local makers across our country, women in business, and Indigenous peoples. We offer local and high-quality products for women and children including apparel, jewellery, home decor, artwork, and more!
How has COVID affected your business and what have you learned as a result?
Navigating a global pandemic we used this time to reflect on this 'new normal' and the impact COVID-19 is having on our friends, family, and community. I became inspired to open a small shop that focused on supporting friends, families, and our neighbours across the Nation. Wildflowers has progressed because of the many progressive women in business that surround me and the vision for Wildflowers & Co. came to life.
How did Wildflowers & Co. get started and what was the driving force behind it?
This dream of owning a small business is inspired by supporting local, buying local, and growing local. Most importantly, Indigenous artists, jewellery, and makers across the Nation have outgrown the spaces of tourism centres, art galleries, or gas stations; that these products are handcrafted with sacred traditional teachings, love and with the environment in mind and worthy of being placed alongside Canadian brands such as Matt & Nat to Brunette the Label. Thank you for joining me on this new journey.
What are you most excited about for 2021?
Wildflowers & Co. is excited to grow our local mission, increase our Indigenous Collective, and find ways to connect more directly to families in Campbell River.
