Group: Standard Purple Stripe
When to Plant: 4 to 6 weeks before soil freezes. In warmer regions, planting ranges from late September/early October until the last week of November.
Harvest Season: Mid-Late
A beautiful purple-striped hardneck garlic. Consistent, with a high number of cloves per bulb, stores well and a nice strong flavour. A must have for any garlic collection. Originally from Shvelisi, Republic of Georgia, this is one of the oldest known horticultural groups in the garlic family, cultivated for thousands of years.
Grow: One of the last variety to emerge after winter, making Chesnok Red a good garlic to plant in colder, unpredictable climates. Since these tend to mature later in the season, they are often one of the last to harvest.
Flavour: Strong and distinctly complex flavour. One of the sweetest varieties to bake, you will think someone added honey to it! Check out some great garlic recipes here.
Seed specifics: ~9 cloves per bulb
