Brassica napus
Rutabaga is the work horse of the fall/winter root vegetables. Helenor is the standard, tried and proven variety of rutabaga you can rely on. Large round roots with lovely purple shoulders where the sun shines, the roots can remain in the ground until you are ready to eat them. They also store very well in a cool and well ventilated storage space. Can be grown as early as desired but typically grown for fall and winter harvest. For fall/winter harvest, direct seed between May and late June. Can survive moderate frost and will taste sweeter when frost has started
