Asparagus officinalis
Notoriously hardy, long standing perennial whose spring shoots make for the delicious spring vegetable treat. Beautiful feathery foliage, often used in flowering arrangements, grows 3 to 4 feet and blooms with multiple small yellow bell shaped flowers which give rise to bright red berries. When growing from seed, pot up seedlings and over winter in pots, planting out in prepared beds the following Spring.
Growing instructions:
Perennial, there will be no harvest until 3 years after transplanting. Start indoors in winter, germination will take 2-8 weeks. Transplant in full sun when seedlings are 10-12 weeks old and after last frost. Space 45cm apart in row, 1-2m apart and in a hole 10cm deep.
