Zea mays
Bred by Dave Christensen in the mountains of Montana, this is a very early corn that reliably produces a crop of colourful flour corn, even in marginal soils with very little care. It is easy to grind (an old coffee grinder or blender will do) and can be used whole in soups, stews and stuffings.
To learn more of the origins of this corn, see the story here.

Growing instructions
Direct sow outdoors in late spring when the soil is warmer. Plant 2-5cm deep, 7.5cm apart and 60-90cm apart in row. Germination in 7-10 days. Add manure or compost to soil as corn is a heavy feeder. Prefers a soil pH of 5.8-6.8. Plant in dense blocks rather than single rows for better wind pollination.
