Seeding New Roots: Support our expansion into a new building

Seeding New Roots: Support our expansion into a new building

With so many growers recognizing the need for local seed security, we've outgrown our Seed Hub, and will be moving in August 2025 into a larger building on the same property. As you can see from the photo above, it needs a lot of work done before we can move in!

What do we do at The Seed Hub?

• Store all of the seeds that our members sell through the co-op
• Cleaning, processing, germination testing and packaging of seeds
• Order fulfillment

Why donate to BC Eco Seed Co-op?

Unlike most seed companies, we are a producers' co-op, which means that the majority of the money we make from seed sales goes directly back to our members. What money is left over is used to run the business: paying our staff, purchasing our shipping, packaging, and germination testing materials. We often rely on grants to make big purchases, such as a new printer, germination chamber or seed counter.

This project is beyond the scope of any grants that are currently available, and we've searched high and low! However, this is also a necessary move, and we don't have the option of waiting for a grant to appear. This is a cost-shared project with a partner, and fortunately work has already begun, but we need to cover our portion of the project.

Your support now will directly support BC farmers, as it will allow us to continue to provide an avenue for them to sell their seed. Any amount that you can contribute will make a big difference!

We're not wasting any time, work has already begun!

Until recently, sheep would hang out in here at night - clearly it is in desperate need of attention! This is where we will package and store seed, as well as do our order fulfillment. Work to be done here:

• Pour a concrete floor - DONE!
• Install a door and windows - IN PROGRESS!
• Electrical wiring, internet, and water
• Finish the walls and ceiling

Upstairs has been used as storage and a hayloft. Our plans for this space will also include storage, as well as all of our germination testing and seed processing activities. Work to be done here:

• Install more windows - IN PROGRESS!
• Electrical wiring, internet, and water
• Finish the floor, walls and ceiling

These stairs are dodgy! Work to be done:

• Replace and reinforce steps - IN PROGRESS
• Build a roof over top of them - IN PROGRESS
• Build a door - IN PROGRESS

This way we can safely carry seeds and other supplies up and down and keep everything dry.

Water is on it's way!
