Physalis peruviana
This large, upright plant (3-5 feet) native to the Andes and cultivated since Incan times, produces large amounts of tasty and nutritious, small, 3/4 inch yellow/orange fruits encased in a paper husk. These delicious fruits are tart yet sweet, and very fruity, loaded with vitamin A, C and B.
Will grow in rich or marginal soils, outdoors or in the greenhouse. Later to mature than Groundcherries, so start early and cultivate as per tomatoes. Goldenberries are awesome fresh or dried, and great preserved into jams or compote.
Growing Instructions
Start indoors in April with bottom heat; transplant out when weather is warm, outdoors or under a cold frame, 45-60cm apart.
