Physalis philadelphica
‘Purple Striped’ tomatillo arose from an accidental cross between a Mexican strain tomatillo and a purple tomatillo that was noticed in seedlings the next year. The variety is notable for its early maturity and strikingly patterned husk with purple stripes on a dark green background. The variety has somewhat a more open branching pattern than ‘Purple de Milpa’ and was selected for its upright standing growing pattern and early maturation. Produce large fruits generally earlier than any green varieties
