Vicia faba
A very large seeded fava bean (broad bean) that is sweet and tender at the fresh eating stage, and starchy and filling when rehydrated from its dry state. These don’t always overwinter in the Fraser Valley from a fall sowing, but can be planted as early as the first week in February. We’ve been saving our own seed for over a decade. Originally bred by Ianto Evans of Aprovecho Research Centre in Oregon.

Growing instructions:
Plant 1-2" deep, 2-4" spacing in rows 18" apart when soil is between 5-20 degrees C. Spring plantings are common, however in coastal areas with milder winter, they can be planted earlier (October to February) to avoid aphid damage.
