Anthenum graveolens
An early maturing dill that is beloved by butterflies, pollinators, foodies & herbalists alike! The tender fresh feathery leaves are classic in potato salad, borscht, and all kinds of cooked or fresh salads. Beautiful yellow flowers on long stems attract beneficials to the garden, make a stunning garden bouquet (thus the name!) and create an intoxicating aroma at nightfall. And finally, the mature seeds can be gathered for spice, food preservation (due to antimicrobial qualities), tea, and medicinal use. Dill really is an easy-to-grow must-have in the garden, the pantry, and the medicine cabinet!
Health benefits as used in traditional medicine: Dill has been used as a natural remedy for thousands of years in cultures around the world. The leaves are full of nutrients that support good health but the seed is especially well-known for its potent and diverse health benefits. Dill seed's vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, essential oils and other chemical constituents give it many qualities that: support healthy digestion, boost appetite, improve breast milk production, regulate blood sugar, support bone and heart health, relieve coughs, colds & bronchitis, relieve gas & colic in children, support immunity and treat bacterial infections, balance hormones, aid in prevention of iron-deficiency anemia, relieve digestive/menstrual pains, support inflammatory arthritis, insomnia and anxiety, and support skin and eye health.
All this in a cup of tea! (Or teaspoon of crushed/chewed seed.)
Precaution should be taken regarding amounts consumed if taking certain medications or in cases of pregnancy, allergy and some health conditions - consult a herbal practitioner in these cases. Essential oils should not be consumed internally.
