Burgess Buttercup

Cucurbita maxima

This is a dark green, round turban-shaped winter squash.  The dark orange flesh is velvety smooth, creamy, buttery and very sweet!  Similar appearance to a Kabocha, but a milder flavour and high moisture in the flesh, unlike the dryness of a Kabocha.  Thick skin is edible yet makes it an excellent storage variety.

Growing Instructions

Sow in a tray or pots in a greenhouse in April and plant out 2.5-3 feet apart in May, or direct seed 3 seeds per spot and thin to the strongest plant. Produces best with fertile soil.  115 days - harvest before first frost.
