Amaranthus cruentus
This type of amaranth grows to 4-5' and puts on huge and gorgeous rust and copper-coloured flowers, and then seedheads with a very decent grain yield. If harvested early enough the baby greens are a tasty addition to salads! Can be grown as a start or can be broadcast with decent results.
Growing Instructions
Sow into 98-cell flats or preferred seedling container 4-6 weeks before planting out. Germination: 7-10 days. Seedling trays should be kept at a temperature of 62-65°F (17-18°C) prior to transplanting. Can be direct seeded after the threat of frost has passed. Spacing: 12-15”. Prefers well-drained soil. Pinching is required for more manageable stems. Support recommended.
