Genovese

Ocimum basilicum

This heirloom variety has large, tender and highly fragrant leaves - excellent in fresh summer salads, sandwiches, and of course, pesto! Genovese basil is a "certified protected designation of origin" plant, to honour its geographical "terroir" and history as the ingredient in Genovese pesto. Prefers the protection of a greenhouse. Also does great in containers and can be grown indoors, given enough light.

Growing Instructions

Start indoors early spring for transplant mid summer. Needs warm weather, warm soil and full sun. Germination: 5-10 days. Spacing 8-10" apart. Pinch off growing tips for more growth.
