Allium fistulosum
Japanese heirloom perennial bunching onion that doesn't produce bulbs but is used like scallions, and offers mild and tasty greens year round on the coast. Can be sown either in the spring or in the fall with stalks dividing from the base. Very hardy, with winter mulching beneficial.
Growing instructions
Can start indoors Feb. to March and transplant or direct sow in April: sow a few seeds 5mm-1cm deep in each cell of a cell tray, transplant cell plug 12-15cm apart. To overwinter in protected areas, start in early July and transplant in Aug.
