When to Plant: 4 to 6 weeks before soil freezes. In warmer regions, planting ranges from late September/early October until the last week of November.
Season: Mid-Season
Description: We used to grow over 20 different European Hardneck varieties. Eventually, we lost track and for over 30 years we've been planting the very best bulbs and calling it Helmer Rocambole. It grows extremely well on our farm under a huge variety of weather conditions and soil types. For fertility, we use cattle manure if we can get it, Biodynamic compost that we make ourselves, and a variety of cover crops. We don't irrigate, and while the field is far from weed free, we do try to keep the weeds to a minimum between plants, giving the bulbs plenty of room to grow. Keep the fussing to a minimum and enjoy growing this great tasting culinary garlic!
