Noir des Carmes

Cucumis melo

Originally named for the order of Carmelite monks in France who grew them for clearly a holy purpose. When started inside in early April and kept in a tunnel cloche or given the advantage of protection all season you can experience heaven whenever the dark green fruit turns gold and slips from the vine mature in August.

Growing instructions

Start indoors 4-6 weeks after last frost. Germination in 5-10 days. Transplant when seedlings are 5 weeks old. Sow seeds 1cm deep, 60-90cm apart in row and 1.5-2m apart. Prefers warm, well drained soil with an ideal pH of 6.0-6.8.
