Allium sativum sativum
Type: Softneck
Group: Silverskin
When to Plant: 4 to 6 weeks before soil freezes. In warmer regions, planting ranges from late September/early October until the last week of November.
Season: Early
Description: This variety originated from the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington. The silverskins are a sofneck variety similar to the Artichokes. Very attractive due to their pink inner skin covered by a creamy white/silver papery outer skin. They make beautiful braids and store very well over the winter months.
Flavour: Bold with a medium amount of spiciness.
Grow: Like the artichokes, each bulb carries a more than average clove count, which means the planting goes further than say a Porcelain or a Marbled Purple stripe. A softneck, they do not produce scapes, however some stalks will still attempt to produce one and you will find an extra little treat (bulbils) in the stalk of the plant.
Number of cloves/bulb: 10-15
Approx. Size Range: Medium Large (1.75"-2")
Purchase 10 bulbs for best shipping rate per bulb! Don't forget if it's more than you need, seed garlic can also be enjoyed as culinary eating garlic
