Pickling

Cucumis sativus

This was originally a cross between two well known standard pickling cucumber varieties: Homemade Pickles and Northern Pickling. Over the years they have been grown beside a smooth skinned variety called Mideast Peace as well as lemon cucumbers, and occasional off-types of those varieties can be observed at a rate of about 1-2%.

Growing Instructions

Start indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting into warm soil. Sow 2cm deep in each pot, using bottom heat. Transplant when plants develop their third true leaf, full sun. Space plants 23cm apart in row and 90cm apart. Ideal well drained, warm soil with a pH of 6.0-6.8. Keep plants well picked for better production. Water the soil only, keeping the leaves as dry as possible as they can be susceptible to powdery mildew.
