Red Russian move aside because Purple Russian is here to stay! These are massive and beautifully coloured garlic with a flavour on par with any other Red Russian. A handsome subgroup of the Standard Purple Stripe. This garlic is a dependable garden addition with consistent performance in clove numbers and size year to year.
When to Plant: 4 to 6 weeks before soil freezes. In warmer regions, planting ranges from late September/early October until the last week of November.
Season: Mid-Season
Grow: More tolerant than Rocamboles in wet soil conditions, they still prefer well-drained soil. A great one to grow out from the bulbils.
Flavour: Hot and spicy, yet smooth, when eaten raw. Sweet, nutty flavour when cooked.
A fantastic addition to tomato-based sauces and soups and stews.
