Purple Sprouting

Brassica oleracea

This over-wintering variety produces an abundance of vibrant, tender, healthful and tasty purple sprouts starting in March when sown the previous July. Best suited to areas with mild winters, both the florets and leaves are enjoyed raw or cooked. Pretty yellow flowers are sweet to eat, and attractive to pollinators. A Metchosin Farm Original mix.

Growing instructions

Start indoors in late May, sow 3-4 seeds in each pot, 5mm deep under a bright light. Seeds will germinate in 7-10 days. Thin down to the single strongest plant. Transplant in July at 45-60cm apart in row and 75-90cm apart for a spring harvest. Full sun, ideal soil pH of 6.0-6.8.
