Purple Valley

Hordeum vulgare

This productive, hulless barley is a great staple crop. We have grown it for two years, hand harvested, and now use it as a side dish instead of rice or add it to soups and winter stews. This barley is delicious and a wonderful, easy introduction to growing grain. Best grown in Spring.

Growing instructions:

Direct sow in early spring to mid/late summer. Plant in well drained soil 2-4cm deep, in full sun or partial shade. For grain harvest, plant in spring only.
