This is a selection from the Stripes 'n Gold beet that began in 2016 when we let our favourite gold and striped varieties cross. After 10 years of growing out this cross, I selected all gold variants in 2025 to produce seeds in 2026. This is the beginning of a new selection that I hope will see gold at the end of the rainbow. You can expect a diversity of gold, from solid gold, to light gold, to striped gold. I will continue to select for good germinating deep gold beets, and welcome you to try this early breeding selection out and support farmer bred vegetable varieties.

Growing instructions

Direct sow 4 weeks after last frost to mid summer. Sow 5-10cm apart in row, 45cm apart, and 1cm deep. Full sun / part shade, cool season Biennial. Ideal soil pH of 6.0-6.8. Germination: 5-12 days. For uniformly sized beets, thin to 7-15cm apart when seedlings are 5cm tall. Harvest at any stage, but for best flavour, pull the beets as soon as they reach full size of about 8-10cm.
