Allium cepa
This is a pink sweet onion with a spinning top shape and good winter storage. This vigorously growing old heirloom was traditionally produced in the sandy soils of the Ile d’Oléron in France, popular for its culinary properties and great flavour, and nearly disappeared. It has been reintroduced over the past decade by CREGENE and a group of seed stewards in the region.

Growing instructions
Start indoors in late winter, germination will occur in 6-10 days. Trim seedlings when they reach 15cm. Transplant seedlings mid spring in clumps, spacing 15cm apart or wider for larger varieties. Plant in full sun and well drained soil. Let bulbs cure for a week before pulling, curing is essential for long storage. After harvesting let onions dry until outer layer is crispy then store in a cool, well ventilated place.
