Russian Sugar

Pisum sativum

An old heirloom variety tracing its' origins back to Russia and brought to Saskatchewan several generations ago by the Mennonite community. The vigorous vines easily reach 6ft plus and are adorned with beautiful two-tone blue and mauve flowers that develop into large, flavourful and sweet snow pea pods.

Keep picking for a long harvest for fresh use or stir fries.

Growing instructions

Seed in well-draining soil when temp is 5-20 degrees Celsius, or early July for a fall crop. Seed liberally 2-3 inches deep along a trellis, a little deeper if planting in summer. 7-14 days to germinate,
